Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

That’s right!  All this snow does have a few benefits…  for your garden!  Having a healthy blanket of snow is great for the garden as it acts like insulation does in your house.  Snow provides protection from dramatic fluctuations in temperatures for your plants.  Due to all the snow we have received this fall, the soil temperature in your garden will cool gradually and then warm up next spring gradually, this is good news for all of the plants in your garden.

The only draw back to all this snow is that evergreens can sometimes be damaged from the heavy snow sitting on its branches.  To maintain your evergreens shape, try the following suggestions:

Tie up your upright evergreens with string or netting.

Brush off heavy snow (gently) from plants such as Globe Cedars and spreading evergreens.

Globe Cedars in particular can also be tied up loosely to help maintain shape.

At the nursery we are currently working on orders for Spring, so if there is a particular new or hard to find plant that you wish to obtain this spring please let us know now!

We hope everyone had a Happy and Safe Holiday Season and Best Wishes to all in 2008!

We look forward to seeing you at the Garden Centre.
